Meet the Executive Team of Dermody Properties
Michael C. Dermody - President and Chief Executive Officer
Michael C. Dermody joined the firm in 1976 as Treasurer and became President and CEO in 1983. Under his leadership, the company’s portfolio grew from 2.5 million square feet to over 22 million feet. During this time, DP Partners/Dermody Properties increased its Reno market share from 25% to 50%. Utilizing the “team” management concept, Mr. Dermody led DP Partners/Dermody Properties from a local developer of real estate to a fully integrated national developer, owner and operator of industrial warehouses located throughout the nation. Michael Dermody’s keen focus on customer service has allowed DP Partners/Dermody Properties to maintain its client orientation, even as the company grew into a nationally focused organization. He has always maintained that the company’s biggest asset is its people, so employees are not only empowered, but also own stock in the company and its assets.
Born in Reno in 1950, Mr. Dermody attended primary schools in Reno and graduated high school from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. He studied for three years at various schools in Switzerland and France, including the University of Bordeaux, and obtained a B.S. from the University of Colorado in 1972 and a J.D. from Gonzaga University in 1976.
A cornerstone of his career has been a deep commitment to community service and charitable giving. In 1985, Mr. Dermody helped to establish The Children’s Cabinet, a non-profit agency which serves the needs of thousands of at-risk children and families of northern Nevada annually. He established the DP/Dermody Properties Foundation in 1988, which is solely managed and directed by the employees of DP Partners/Dermody Properties, to benefit the citizens of the communities in which the company does business. In 2004, DP Partner/Dermody Properties became a sponsor for a Habitat for Humanity house. In 1998, Mr. Dermody founded Sage Ridge School, an independent secondary school with a uniquely integrated core curriculum.
Mr. Dermody is married to his wife, Tammy. They have three sons and a daughter and live in Reno, Nevada. He enjoys mountain biking, skiing, fishing, and woodworking.
